Senior Center Stop Motion Workshop

2014 SPARC (Seniors Partnering with Artists) Artist Residency and Grant
Supported by the New York Cultural Fund and the Queens Council for the Arts

The Living Room is an animation project that takes place inside a constructed room over 14 weeks. The project utilizes the stories, talents, and help of local senior citizens. The seniors help design the set and then create a series of animation sequences. The animations are based on the subject of “home.” The seniors write stories that address the significance of the objects, memories, or emotions connected to the word home. Based on their ideas each senior creates an animation. The animations are defined by the way the subject describes and anthropomorphizes the objects and events they associate with home. The room will serve as an abstract portrait of the participant’s histories.
